Sen. Lacson with residents of Kalayaan town in Pagasa Island

Lacson Plants PH Flag at Pag-asa Island

November 20, 2021 - We came from a visit to one of the most beautiful places in the country, the island called Pagasa, meaning hope, belonging to the municipality of Kalayaan meaning freedom, in the middle of the West Philippine Sea.

Hope for Pagasa in Kalayaan. Hope for lasting peace and tranquility in the WPS area, and freedom of navigation for all nations to enjoy.

As we were approaching the airstrip in the island, our pilot was challenged by one of the Chinese Coast Guard vessels stationed a little beyond the 3-nautical mile distance from the island of Pagasa.

As we landed on the airstrip, nakabasa ako ng text, “Welcome to China.” This is unusual.

A few days ago, last Nov 16, two supply vessels of our PH Navy were blocked and sprayed with salt water coming from high pressure water cannons of at least three Coast Guard vessels belonging to the PROC. This is totally unacceptable. Our leadership should take a more positive and definite stand or position along this line. But what can we do? We are a weak country and China is a powerful country militarily.

It’s good we visited the island. As I have been saying Balance of Power. We cannot do it alone, we need to strengthen our alliances with different countries of the world. EU, US, Australia, Japan, even Canada, as well as other ASEAN neighbors. Ito ang pwede nating gawin.

As we received a briefing from Wescom commander Lt Gen Enriquez ito kasam sa discussion namin. I suggested to him to influence our national leadership to go in that direction. Kasi we’re so helpless. Parang 'Welcome to China,' tapos being challenged by a Chinese Coast Guard vessel, parang we’re encroaching on their territory. Ang incident sa Ayungin is unacceptable

As we went around the island and talked with the fisherfolk beneath the difficulties in life there is the sense of patriotism. 193 inhabitants, 1 elementary school, 2 teachers teaching 34 students multigrade. Government must really step in.

It’s good the AFP may construction going on. Ito kasama sa budget ng AFP ine-extend ang airstrip to 1300 para maka-land ang regular aircraft like the one we were using. Kanina we changed planes kasi maiksi ang airstrip.

Ito ang natutunan namin from the inhabitants. And the leadership must respond to give them that sense of belonging to the country, pati ang ating sense of territorial integrity. Because we should enjoy sovereign rights … And here we are, ganoon ang nangyayari. Tayo ang china-challenge, tinataboy. Pathetic to say the least.

ATIN ANG WEST PHILIPPINE SEA!
Sen Ping Lacson

Sen Ping Lacson Pumunta sa PALAWAN At Bumisita Sa PAG-ASA Island!

Members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Command (WesCom) welcome Partido Reporma chairman and standard-bearer Panfilo “Ping” Lacson upon his arrival in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Saturday morning (November 20).

Sen. Ping Lacson is in the province to make a scheduled visit to Pag-asa Island in Kalayaan, Palawan to consult with and check on local residents and fishermen in the area amid recent tensions over the West Philippine Sea.

Lacson assures: No martial law under my leadership

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Panfilo Lacson has one assurance to the public should he be elected as president of the country in next year’s national elections: No martial law under his leadership.

Lacson made the remark after he was asked in a press forum if he will declare martial law under his leadership as a known “disciplinarian.”

“’Yan ang pwedeng itaga sa bato… Dun sa martial law, hindi mangyayari (You can cast it in stone… Martial law won’t happen),” Lacson said.

One of Lacson’s competitors for the presidency is former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Marcos Sr. has been hit for the number of human rights abuses following his declaration of martial law.

Meanwhile, in his final State of the Nation Address back in July, President Rodrigo Duterte suggested that his successor should declare martial law if he or she wants to reform the government and rid it of corruption.

The suggestion was made after the President again claimed that nobody could eradicate corruption across the bureaucracy.

But under the 1987 Constitution, the president may only proclaim martial law in case of foreign invasion and rebellion when public safety requires it.

Lacson wants political turncoats held accountable: ‘Parang nasa daily menu na’

MANILA, Philippines — Presidential candidate and Senator Panfilo Lacson is pushing for tighter rules against political turncoatism, saying that there should be some accountability from politicians involved in such practices.

In a press forum, Lacson was asked if switching between political parties, particularly during election season, is a mockery of the election system.

“Unang-una, dapat i-strengthen natin yung political party system. Yung pagswi-switch, pagtu-turncoat, usong-uso e. Parang nasa daily menu na natin,” Lacson said.

(We should strengthen our political party system. Switching parties and turncoatism has been so prevalent. It’s like it’s part of the daily menu.)

“Siguro bigyan natin ng ngipin yung against turncoatism na kung saan may karampatang responsibilidad o accountability pag nag-switch ka ng partidong hindi naaayon sa rhyme or reason,” the senator added.

(We should give some teeth against turncoatism where those switching political parties should be held accountable when it’s not reasonable.)

Lacson said that accountability does not necessarily have to be in form of penalties.

Just a few days before declaring her vice presidential bid, Davao City mayor and vice presidential candidate Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio quit her regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) and joined the Lakas-CMD party.
