 Lacson to PDEA, DDB: Look Deeper into Chinese Nationals' PH Drug Operations, Connections

    Why are some Chinese nationals being bolder in their involvement in drug operations in the Philippines? How long have they been operating here? Do they have connections in government?

    These are among the questions that the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Dangerous Drugs Board should look into, after a series of anti-drug operations by the Philippine National Police, Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson said Monday.

    "Salute to the PNP! More than these successful police operations, the DDB and PDEA should look deeper into the bold and imprudent behavior of these Chinese nationals to choose the Philippines as their base; how long they had been operating; their possible connections in government, etc.," Lacson, who headed the PNP from 1999 to 2001, said in a post on his Twitter account.

    Lacson is the sponsor of the budget of the PDEA, which coordinates the law enforcement operations against the illegal drug trades; and of the DDB, which is involved in policy formulation on drug prevention and control.

    The PNP said it seized some P1.482 billion worth of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) in anti-illegal drug operations in Quezon City, Valenzuela City, and Balagtas, Bulacan on Sunday, Aug. 1.

    At least one Chinese drug suspect - initially identified as Wu Zishen, 50 - was killed after engaging law enforcers in a shootout while four other Chinese were arrested, the PNP said.

    Police arrested Willie Lu Tan, Anton Wong, and Wang Min in Novaliches, Quezon City. Seized from them were 127 kilos of shabu worth P863.6 million. A separate operation in Valenzuela City resulted in the arrest of Joseph Dy and the seizure of 16 kilos of shabu worth P108.8 million. Another operation in Bulacan resulted in the death of Wu, and the recovery of 75 kilos of shabu worth P510 million.

    Even with the physical absence of Secretary Wendel Avisado, the Department of Budget and Management has an abundance of competent and capable career undersecretaries and assistant secretaries who can avail of existing telecommunication technology for his guidance and direction.

    I thus cannot see any reason for the delay in the constitutionally mandated 30-day period submission of the National Expenditure Program to Congress, after President Rodrigo Duterte's State of the Nation Address last July 26.

    The same can be said for simultaneous public hearings on the budget in the House of Representatives' Appropriations Committee and the Senate Finance Committee.

    Nevertheless, let us all pray for the speedy and full recovery of Sec. Avisado.

    Iba't-ibang sectoral leaders at organizations sa Central Luzon ang nagsanib pwersa nitong Lunes para magbigay ng kanilang todo suporta kay Senador Panfilo "Ping" Lacson sa pagtakbo nito sa 2022 presidential election. 

    Sa isang press conference na ginanap sa Mavins Events Center, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija, inilunsad ng mga sectoral leaders ang Central Luzon for Ping Lacson 2022 (CenLuzon4Ping). Ayon sa grupo, ang higit na kailangan ng bansa, matapos ang anim na taong na walang kakayahan at walang direksyon na pamamahala, ay isang pinuno na may "tapang, talino at katapatan." Sabi ng grupo, si Lacson ang nagtataglay ng mga katangiang ito. 

    "Aanhin natin ang tapang na walang talino, at talino na walang katatagan? Ang kailangan natin ay isang lider na hindi lamang matapang, kundi may sapat na katalinuhan at kakayahan para tumbasan ang kanyang katapangan," ayon kay  G. Teofilo "Booji" Juatco, isang lider magsasaka  at Land Reform defender sa lalawigan ng Nueva Ecija.

    “Mula noong siya ay isang pulis at naging Senador, naging tuloy-tuloy o consistent si Senator Ping para labanan ang corruption, lalo na ang lahat ng porma ng pork barrel funds.  Hindi siya kailanman gumamit ng pork barrel. Dahil dito, mahigit P2 bilyon halaga ng taxpayers' money ang naprotektahan at napunta sa mga mahahalagang panlipunang serbisyo at programa," dagdag pa ni  G. Juatco.

    Pinuri din ng grupo si Lacson sa kanyang pagdepensa sa West Philippine Sea laban sa panghihimasok ng bansang Tsina. "Si Senator Ping ang isa sa mga pangunahing boses sa Senado na nagtatanggol sa karapatan at kagalingan ng maliliit na mangingisdang Pilipino  laban sa Tsina," ayon sa grupo. 

    Para ipakita ang kanilang suporta kay Lacson, nagdala ang mga sectoral leaders ng mga "service" and/or "call bells" at kanila itong sabay-sabay na pinatunog. Ani ng grupo, sinisimbolo nito ang walang puknat  at maaasahang serbisyo ni Lacson sa mamamayang Pilipino. 

    Bukod dito, pumirma din ang mga lider ng iba't-ibang organisasyon mula sa Pampanga, Bulacan, Zambales, Bataan at Nueva Ecija sa isang malaking manifesto na nagdedeklara ng suporta sa Senador. 

    Ang CenLuzon4Ping ay binubuo ng iba’t ibang sectoral leaders mula sa mga magsasaka, manggagawang bukid, mangingisda, maliliit na negosyante, mga kabataan, kababaihan at dating mga kawani ng lokal na pamahalaan at pambansang ahensya na nagkaisa para isulong ang kasarinlan ng bansa, labanan ang corruption, itaguyod ang science-based programs para mapigilan ang pandemya at iangat ang kabuhayan ng mga Pilipino.
